Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) showcases Irish Higher Education in Chicago today & in St Louis tomorrow

Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister (An Tánaiste) and Minister for Education and Science, Ms Mary Coughlan has been attending a number of events over the last two days in Chicago to showcase Irish higher Education.

The Education Ireland mission which is organised by Enterprise Ireland and includes senior  participants from all 7 Irish universities, 5 institutes of technology and a number of other colleges, commenced in Boston on Monday 27th September.

Chicago events included a well attended Study in Ireland fair and meetings with journalists and key educators in the region.   This morning An Tánaiste is hosting an Education Ireland Breakfast for High School Counsellors and important senior education contacts in the region. Following further meetings and engagements throughout the morning, the Delegation will visit the prestigious Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago.

The Education Mission continues in St Louis tomorrow where participants are exhibiting under Education Ireland at the 66th NACAC Conference and Exhibition.  NACAC is the American National Association of High School College Counsellors – key influencers of high school students.  Education Ireland has been working with this group for a number of years, and having our deputy Prime Minsiter at the event is extremely positive for the perception of Irish Higher Education.  Ms Coughlan will be meeting the President of NACAC and other senior officials, we well as reviewing the Education Ireland stand.

A number of other events are scheduled for the day in St Louis, including a lunch to be hosted by An Tánaiste with the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).  The NSHSS is an Education Ireland partner organisation whose mission is to recognise academic excellence and to encourage high schools students to apply their unique talents, vision, and potential for the betterment of themselves and the world. NSHSS President Claes Nobel will attend the lunch.
