University College Cork – the World’s first Green Flag University participates in Study in Ireland Fairs in Boston & Chicago

University College Cork  (UCC) will join 13 other leading Irish HEIs at the Study in Ireland Fairs in Boston & Chicago (September 27th & 28th).

There has never been a better time to study at University College Cork. UCC has risen yet again in the QS World University Rankings 2010 and is now in the Top 200 universities worldwide.

Our international students rave about their experience. In an international student survey of 67,000 international students at 93 institutions (including Ivy League in the US and Russell Group in the UK) UCC was ranked 1st for international student support, 2nd for graduate employability, in top 3 for sports and social facilities and 98% surveyed said they have expert lecturers.  Source: i-graduate International Student Barometer.

And in 2010, UCC became the first university in the world to be awarded the Green Flag for environmental friendliness, highlighting our green ethos across the campus. This was awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Denmark.

See what our international students have to say:

Niamh O’Sullivan from Atlanta, Georgia took the BCL at UCC deciding it best suited her needs. She completed an undergraduate law degree in just three years and now plans to take the New York Bar Exam.

“I found the whole UCC experience to be one-of-a-kind. The campus is gorgeous and the lectures are challenging. The course load is balanced with a great social aspect. I find the American and Irish cultures not to be hugely different and it is easy to assimilate with the people and with Cork.  I feel lucky to have broadened my world knowledge and participate in cultural exchange.”

Megan Nethercut from Hugo, Minnesota is in her 3rd and final year of a Bachelor’s of Social Science

I grew up in a little town called Hugo, just north of the Twin Cities in Minnesota. I fell in love with Ireland on a trip to Europe with my mother in the summer of 2008…everyone was very friendly and more than willing to help when I needed it.

UCC and Cork were not what I expected – but for the better. It encourages lots of self-learning…there are also loads of clubs and societies to join.

I will graduate in 2011 – one year earlier than from a US university with the same degree!

Studying at UCC gives me an experience most people don’t get. I am young, living in another country without my family nearby. I feel that I have really grown up in such that I now cook (!), shop for myself, tend to my room and apartment as I know there is no one else to care for it and I take care of problems I have by myself!

Most importantly it is just a phenomenal experience! I love all of it! People are accepting, friendly and lots of fun. It has been an excellent choice! You should really attend UCC or study here at some point during your college life!
